My most memorable was actually the entire GT, this has been the best. I enjoyed from the beginning to the end. The routes were marvellous, scenic and I found out how beautiful our country actually is.
The marshalls with thier antics like Channel looking like an escaped Tanjung Rambutan inmate, Ashok who was hiding behind the tree from Police in fact the tree trunk was far bigger than his one layer body.Kiru who was telling us to slow down in fact looked like bowing to us like the Japanese at the last Stage.
Osman and Haizam who went shopping when they suddenly spotted the first cars zooming past and rushed to take down the time in the last stage.
And many more instances. This has been the best Gt so far.
Cheers Committee. |

KK,
looks like angela will never ever follow you in any aroc trip. 1st,she accompanied you to phuket and your battery was failing. and now a cracked manifold. I think you should concentrate on the road and leave other activities done at home _________________ winners not quitters |

On the contrary. In fact, she felt so indignant about the way our race ended that she vows to be back next year. Wait till she finds out that we came in 5th even without completing the last 2 SS. (Provided the results , on another thread, are accurate!) |

The left manifold was cracked, 1 mm at the widest point. Canon's has taken it to be welded, wrapped with new exhaust heat wrap. Fitting them back to the head is a bitch, it's been going on for 2 days.
Why is refitting such a bitch KK ?
Can you get another manifold from a half cut V6 and use that instead?
Just curious and pls forgive my ignorance if the answer is obvious to motorheads.
Cheers. |

Hi Doc
These are CSC straight flow extractors from EB Spares. It's just the way they're designed, particularly the position of the holes where you bolt them onto the head. Work done without taking out the block or head. Very cramped.
They're fitted now, engine started, problem solved. |

KK; if you were not give-up during the final stage, you were easily be no 2. if not no 1. Theoretically, you just need to complete the final stage and 2nd placing still your even if u arrived 20 min late during that sector.
And ofcourse to beat Doc Wong you need additional full point of 50. |

And if not becoz of accident and max penalty point imposed on Desmond, P1 placing for Doc Wong would be a nightmare.... |

Another main contender was Sharil, his acc points is 141 excluding the final stage which was DQ. If he came across the Batu Gajah town together with the group, he would easily collected another 40 odd points and make up total to 181.....2nd placing...
What a waste... |

The 2nd day transport stage, Juru to Ipoh and Special stage was not included for the calculation. The reasons were:-
1. Tulip was in Miles, thanks to the ED's 164
2. The marshal for the special stage Parit to I dunno where (end point) could not read you car # properly as it was dark.
The 3rd day SS was also taken out as the SS route became too short, only about 2km instead of 7km. It became too short because of the Authorities was hanging around at that route. That's why you see Kiru "bowing" like japanese to ask you guys to slow down. Channel is not going to like this as he was stationed at a dessert for the start of the SS. My son WHO was with channel turned "CONGO man" after that.
So, those who really did it in the 1st 1 1/2 day, make it for the event and that was why KK Tang name appear in the top 10. Doc wong kept his P1 becasue he came in time in the 3rd day (Ipoh-Cameron Highlands-Ipoh) and scoring max.

How the points were calculated.
1. Transport stages
Max. points to score is 50. Minimum to score is 15. 15 points was awarded to each participants that were flagged off, regardless whether they made it to the checkpoints. 6 points penalty for every minute early and 2 points penalty for every minute late. Arriving on time scores 50 points.
The marshal shall wait at the last checkpoint for 15 minutes of the ETA of the last car flagged off. Beyond that a partipants that were flagged off only score 15 points.
Note: Some participants made it to the checkpoints but with no flag off time. This has happened at the 2nd leg of the 1st day from K.Kangsar to Gurun. I remembered that few guys followed the marshal after lunch when they were suppose to be flagged off at the area where we had lunch. I can remeber Rafliz as one of them. So you guys was impose the max. penalty for not flagging off. i.e. zero point. However, your special stage time was taken for calculation.
2. Slalom/Sprint
There were 2 slaloms and 2 sprints. Each of the slalom/sprint carried 10 points. Here, a participant can score a max of 40 points. Fastest got 10 points, 2nd got 9 and so on till the 9th fatest scoring 2 points. Everyone who took part got 1 point for participating. No point for those who did not take part.
3. Special Stages
The winner of the special stage was decided based on the total time taken for SS1, SS2 and SS3. No penalties were applied for special stages. A participant can do what they want at special stages for this GT.
So, I see that this year's GT was like playing Golf. Participants do not know which Sectors and Special Stage were dropped off. It's like what golfers term as blind holes in golf, you do not know which holes were not considered for scoring, just to make them to play consistent golf.
However, the organising commitee and the marshal did all we could to ensure that all the Transaport Stages and Special Stages to be accounted but mistakes and other unforseen circumstances do come into picture. For that onbehalf of the organising committee, I bowed for apologies.
Those who made it to the top 10 were the particpants that have managed their journey by reading the tulips well and managed the time of their overall journey especially the 1st day and 1st sector of the 2nd day.
Though the marshal were tired running the event and not been able to take part (very tempting you know!), but we were very happy indeed to hear that you guys have enjoyed the event very much and that there were no car that were written off. |

aha, now i get the whole picture as how u guys calculate the points..
very interesting. All i did was just drive and leave everything to my navigator. I dont even know how was my points added into.
Other than the accident and my punctured tyres. i was quite lucky as i did not have any summones after the event. I was checking via the website again and again just to be sure.
I think i will need to slap in a Eibach or Koni absobers and springs for next year GT event . my originals are jsut sooooo baddddd for this event. especially the slalom and the SS. sigh |

So luck, consistency and persistence played a big part in this years' GT.
I was really really taking the slow scenic route this year as my Navigator frozed up and went pale during the climb up the pedu lake area.
All thro the GT he kept saying " dun win neber mind as long as we finish..." ..
Anyways we'll be back next year and I promised him he can drive during the transport stages.... |
